- He created a world first in 1941 in his first class debut by scoring a century in each innings.
- Was selected in the NSW Team of the Century.
- Was selected in the Australian Team of the Century.
- Selected in Sir Donald Bradman's Team of the Century.
- Scored a century in each innings against England 4th test 1946.
- Scored 8 centuries against England, second to Bradman in first 100 years of cricket against England.
- Highest score of 290 in 300 minutes against Gloucesteshsire in 1948
- In Sir Donald's 'Farewell to Cricket' he states 'in my opinion, the greatest left-hander I have ever seen'
- Hon. Life Member Cricket NSW, Melbourne Cricket Cllub, Marylebone Cricket Club.
- Was at the non striker's end (and finished with 196) when Sir Donald was bowled for a duck in his last test innings.
